On Sunday, September 24, 2006, the internationally renowned installation artist, Spencer Tunick, with the support of museum kunst palast, will create a three-dimensional body sculpture involving hundreds of nude people in Dusseldorf, Germany.
Apart from the open-air installation, from 30 September 2006 to 12 November 2006 museum kunst palast itself will be showing photographs from Spencer Tunick's previous projects as well as a video and photographs of the Düsseldorf installation.
Spencer Tunick invites you to take part in this project and in the realisation of a unique work of art of world-wide interest. Volunteer participants can register via this website. Every participant will obtain a limited edition photograph of the installation. More information on the time and place of the event will be sent to participants by e-mail nearer the time. The installation will take place in all weathers.
With this installation, Tunick is connecting with the Düsseldorf Quadriennale06 - the first Year of Art proclaimed by the city and henceforth to be held every four years. Patently with the body theme he is also resuming one that plays such an important part in the work of Caravaggio, to whom museum kunst palast is dedicating a concurrent exhibition of thirty high-calibre loans.
Since 1992, this American artist has been recording naked people in public spaces. His spectacular projects, such as for the Saatchi Gallery in London or the São Paulo Biennale, have been celebrated successes taken up by the media in euphoric terms. The project for Düsseldorf will be his first installation in Germany.
Since 1994, Tunick has realised more than sixty-five ephemeral, site-specific installations. His piece for the Institut de Cultura de Barcelona was a collaboration with 6,000 men and women. With the aid of photography, he has recorded these demanding projects which can come about only with the participation of volunteers.
